BAD BAD WINE, FRUIT OF THE ?

•May 17, 2021 • Leave a Comment

I can’t believe I am drinking this heist again. Barrel Heist. I tried it once from Trader Joes and it was a NO. I picked up a bottle of Barrelhouse from Total Wine and it was amazing. Brain dead back at Trader Joes I thought I was buying the Barrelhouse. I said to myself “it’s cheaper”.

Now I am stuck with this bottle I am suffering through. It has a taste of antiseptic. Looking at the label I feel I am right beside Doc Holiday getting a tooth pulled. Yuck! I am so glad I had a glass of COOPER & THIEF bourbon barrel aged red blend with my greek chicken pizza before my dessert became antisepticized.

PARIS VALLEY ROAD CABERNET SAUVIGNON

FIRST OFF A HINT OF FLORAL. A LITTLE NOSE BURN WITH AN OAK FINISH. I LOVED IT THE FIRST NIGHT AND THE SECOND NIGHT. THE THIRD NIGHT IT JUST SEEMS ORDINARY. MY RATING IS 3.6. DON’T LET IT LINGER AROUND AND YOU CAN RATE IT A 4.

2240 SOUTH CREEK ROAD NEBO, NC 28761

We visited this winery earlier this month. We packed Parmesan cheese, crackers, grapes, and a mango salad for picnicking. Upon arriving we learned their specialties are Bordeaux style wines. We will visit this winery in the summer months to enjoy the WINE of course, a food truck, live music, and the panoramic views. We brought home a bottle of White Note Viognier and a bottle of 2016 Cabernet Franc.

SAILORS SUPERSTITION RUM BARREL AGED RED BLEND 2017 CALIFORNIA

•March 12, 2021 • Leave a Comment
Rum rolls around in my mouth. First taste tingles with a pop of mild cherry pepper. A swish around the old palate releases celery and apple. A little burn to nostrils reminds me I am alive. Dark cherries come to mind. Pairs well with Bugles and chocolate covered salted caramels. I give it a 3.9.

CAPALA SANGIOVESE 2015

•February 25, 2021 • Leave a Comment

From Toscana, Italy. I purchased this bottle from Greens Discount Beer & Wine in Greenville, SC. The grapes blended to make this Capala are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, & Sangiovese. I popped the cork and immediately smelled sausage. Definitely apple first taste and pepper to the nose. Is it spring already? I taste a fresh vegetable salad. Fresh linens. The front side is fresh with tannins. The back side lacks boldness. Okay so I considered the Fetzer and the Capala not to my liking. I mixed them together. Now my concoction is suitable to finish or use as a vinaigrette or I am thinking perfect for use in your homemade antipasto. Cheers

FETZER VALLEY OAKS CABERNET SAUVIGNON

I had a bottle of this California wine several months ago. Publix had it on sale 2 for $7.99. I thought then, “maybe I like this one”, not so this go around. My first whiff reminds me of split pea soup. After 3 more whiffs the ham in the soup is included. So have you ever given the little guy a chance? Well, whatever. A burst of cherry with an apple finish. Mild tannins. I can’t say it’s the worst I have had. Take it with you to play spin the bottle on a church camping trip. I have one more bottle to drink from a bull horn. I give it a 3.3.

CURMUDGEON BOURBON BARREL AGED RED BLEND

I found my first bottle of Curmudgeon at O’Darby’s Liquor Barn in Landrum SC. I could not find any information on the Curmudgeon Winery. I did find Webster Dictionary defines curmudgeon as “a crusty, ill-tempered, and usually old man? This Californian Red Blend has grapes of Merlot, Zinfandel, and Petit Verdot. After a swish in the glass I smell the splinters in the oak barrel. I taste the name, cherry and plum develop. Run your tongue around your mouth for a taste of apple. A whiff of chocolate. A semi mild finish of pear. After 2 glasses you dispel the grumpy in ker-me-jen. I rate it a 4. Went back and bought two more bottles.
